Y'all want to know what the Down South Music Festival is?

The Down South Music Festival is a weekend in May when thousands of people come out to hear great music and give back to the community in the heart of North Carolina. DSMF is presented by LOB. Well what is LOB?

LOB (Lights on Broadway) is a non-profit organization that was started and founded after a group of local citizens, mostly from the Town of Broadway community, decided to have a beach music concert to raise money for the victims of the tornado that came through the area on April 16th, 2011. The concert was held in May 2011 at the Broadway community building and featured beach bands Jim Quick & Coastline, The Fantastic Shakers and Chairman of the Board. The event was a huge success and since then several local charities reached out to the LOB committee for needed support. This is when the “Down South Music Festival” was born. LOB is the parent company and is the presenter of the Down South Music Festival which is now an annual event with the help of our community and sponsors.

Charities

The Down South Music Festival was formed out of a desire to give back to the community. Down South Music Festival is not-for-profit that raises money for local charities. Everybody involved gives their time for free. There is a wide range of musical genres on offer. These are the four charities we are giving back to this year:

Christian United Outreach Center of Lee County

CUOCLC wishes to serve needy Lee County residents as we meet them at their points of emergency need. The purpose of this organization is to: “…do what is required of us – to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8) meeting people at their point of need, following the example of Christ. We strive to develop, implement and maintain programs which provide forphysical, spiritual, and other needs while assisting clients to become less “aid dependent.” We offer follow-up care through a local church family at any of our participating congregations.

While a focus on services for the blind and visually impaired is first priority, the Lions Club serves in various ways. Local Lions Club members serve with the 1.4 million Lions worldwide to support an aggressive attack on blindness around the world.

Sanford Lions members record thousands of hours ofvolunteer services each year. They have numerous fund raising efforts which enable to provide the many services they now offer. A hard-working group of local individuals serves unselfishly to provide services that improve the quality of life for area citizens.

Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA)

At Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) we are dedicated to finding permanent and loving families for the homeless dogs and cats of North Carolina. CARA began rescuing homeless animals from across N.C. in April 2003, and we have placed countless animals in wonderful homes across the country. CARA is dedicated to providing the best service possible to the animals in our care and the families who adopt from us. We take pride in adopting healthy animals and go to great lengths to pair each pet with the perfect family.

CARA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization that operates on individual and corporate donations and fundraising proceeds. We do not receive any funding from government agencies or national animal welfare agencies. We are very fortunate to have a caring and dedicated team of volunteers, board members, and supporters.

CARA’s roots began nearly 30-years ago when Dr. Ron Myres, DVM, opened his veterinary practice in Sanford, NC. One of Dr. Myres’ first clients was Pat Sprouse, who became close friends with Ron and his wife, Gail. They joined forces with Sissy and Poly Cohen and Diane and Rodney Harrill to form a team of caring people devoted to finding a solution to the growing population of homeless animals in Lee County. Their collective efforts would later result in the beginning of the San-Lee Humane Society, a facility that eventually became Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA).
